The History of the Horton Hotel: a story of pioneers who followed their entrepreneurial spirit

The Heart Of Downtown Boone

We are proud to be the only boutique hotel in downtown Boone. Located across the street from the iconic Mast General Store, you can’t beat our walkable location. All of Boone’s restaurants, shopping, and the Appalachian State Campus are within blocks. The Horton Hotel combines the rich history of Boone with the comforts and fine amenities of a boutique hotel.

Stunning Mountain Views

Enjoy breathtaking views of Howard’s Knob, Appalachian State, and downtown Boone from our rooftop. Cozy up next to our fire pit and sip a handmade craft drink while taking in the beauty of the mountains or relax in one of our 15 new guest rooms. We believe in preserving our rich local history and each of our rooms are uniquely decorated and reflect the local vibe.

Built by H.W. Horton in the 1920’s, our historical building honors the traditions of our small town while providing a unique boutique experience. The original Horton building was both a Studebaker dealership and a Spainhour’s Department Store. We aim to continue the Horton legacy as a great place to gather and enjoy friends, drinks, views, and the finer things.

When the opportunity to be a part of Boone’s first boutique hotel presented itself, she could not wait to be involved! She mostly looks forward to being a gracious hostess to each guest that walks through the door.
