Romantic pre-holiday getaway: 5 ways to make your trip extra special!

Thanksgiving is Thursday, and I just can’t believe it. It’s like time ceases to exist from Halloween through the end of year. It flies by so quickly! I love the holidays, but they can be a bit stressful sometimes. I’m a huge advocate of self-care, and what better way to slow down a bit and reconnect with your partner than by planning a romantic pre-holiday getaway? It can take some stress out of the holidays and leave you and your partner feeling extra cozy and close, just in time for the whirlwind of the season. Read on for 5 ways to make your romantic pre-holiday getaway extra special.

1. You guessed it: phones off, please!

A little less technology can go a long way. No, the world will not stop if you don’t get to that email. Trust me, it won’t. Try to spend an entire day of your romantic getaway with phones OFF and see what happens. It’s kind of crazy to think about all of the subtle cues we miss from one another just because we are so incredibly distracted. Give your partner your undivided attention for a day. She/he/they deserve it!

2. A sweet surprise.

Have a partner who loves to read? Or maybe they like taking pictures, or maybe they’re an outdoor enthusiast? Purchase a book you think your partner might like and tuck it into their suitcase. Or pick up one of those adorable instant film cameras. Find something for them from your local outdoor shop. Whatever you choose, make sure to hide it snugly in their suitcase and maybe stick around when they’re unpacking so you can see the expression on their face when they find that sweet surprise.

3. Consider a package.

Many hotels offer creative add-ons and unique packages. Consider booking an add on with your stay. At The Horton Hotel & Rooftop Lounge, we offer numerous add ons. From packages that include a bottle of bubbly at check in, to brewery tours up the street at Lost Province, to ski packages… we’ve got something for every couple. We’ve also got something for every budget. Keep it simple, or go all out. My favorite package right now? Definitely the Bulleit Bourbon nightcap!

4. Avoid the tourist traps.

Take the path less chosen. A little bit of adventure can be especially romantic. Hike a new trail, go to that little restaurant off the beaten path. Do something new! The high energy of tourist hot-spots can be a bit overwhelming at times. Going somewhere less crowded can offer a much more intimate experience, which can help you relax a little more with your sweetheart. Plus, a more intimate experience is a much quieter experience. That creates the perfect opportunity to really communicate and connect with your partner.

5. Go somewhere cold.

Nothing is better than snuggling up by a fire. Choose a romantic getaway where there’s guaranteed to be some chilly weather. It’s the perfect excuse to get extra cozy with your partner. Believe it or not, the slopes have already opened here in the high country. Consider spending the day skiing or snowboarding, and coming back to the hotel, having cocktails brought to your room, and cozying up in one of our plush robes. Book the suite and take a soak in our clawfoot tub. Don’t get me wrong, I love warm weather vacations, but there’s something extra romantic about traveling to a place with colder weather.

Enjoy your romantic getaway.

We hope you have fun planning your special trip. Remember to relax, and soak it all in. Even if it’s just a night or two before the holiday rush, it can make a world of difference for you and your partner. We can pretty much promise that it will leave you feeling refreshed, renewed, and extra close.
