It’s one of our favorite places to visit for a relaxing afternoon: the Lavender House in Valle Crucis. Conveniently located across from Valle Crucis Mast General Store, the Lavender House is a magical place. Because who isn’t enchanted by the smell of lavender? Don’t miss out on the Lavender House while staying at the Horton Hotel. Read on to discover why it’s worth a visit.
It all started with one little lavender plant…
How does one decide to start a lavender farm? For owner and founder Madelyn, it all began with a small lavender plant she bought at the hardware store in the spring of 2015. She put it in a small pot and set it outside near the driveway. Every time she left the house, she would grab a sprig and take in the lovely scent of lavender. “I might buy a dozen more and start a lavender farm in my front yard,” she would joke to people. Well, be careful what you wish for. In the spring of 2016, she decided to give it a shot and opened the Lavender House.
Massages, workshops, and everything else lavender.
The first and second seasons of the Lavender House were successful, and the lavender plants are still going (and growing) strong. With the help of lots of High Country plant lovers, the farm is blooming from May till October. Come to take in the sights and smells, but also treat yourself to a relaxing massage with lavender oil, or join a workshop and learn how to make your own candles, lip balm, soap, or tea.
New: sip a lavender latte under the willows.
Lavender is extremely versatile, and Madelyn loves to give her visitors a taste of that. So now, after your workshop or massage, or just because you need a change of scenery, you can sit under the willow trees and sip a lavender latte, or any other coffee brewed by Hatchet Coffee Roasters. There is also free Wi-Fi. It sounds like a dream, doesn’t it?
