Choose and cut Christmas tree farms in Boone NC

It’s been a cold week, but we’ve enjoyed watching the weather move through. Yesterday the sky was gray, and we watched tiny snowflakes dance through the air all day. This morning we woke up to clear blue skies and a glittery, white layer of snow – just enough to be pretty! There’s a chill lingering in the air, and it’s got us thinking about how Christmas is right around the corner. Did you know that North Carolina is ranked second in the United States for live Christmas tree production?! So, what are you waiting for? Bundle up and head to the mountains, you’ll find plenty of choose & cut Christmas tree farms in Boone NC.

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree…

The tradition of bringing a real tree home for the holidays dates all the way back to the early 1500s. Of course, a Christmas tree of the 1500s would look drastically different than one of the 2000s. Back then, trees were commonly decorated with roses and -can you believe it- apples! In the 1800s the Christmas tree tradition finally made its way to the United States, and historians claim it was introduced by German settlers. It wasn’t until the late 1800s that it became the norm for people to decorate their trees with glass balls and ornaments. Today there are approximately 25-30 million trees produced and sold in the United States.

…how lovely are thy branches! How were you grown, anyway?

The fraser fir is arguably the best type of Christmas tree out there, and they’re actually native to the Southern Appalachian region. Watauga County is perfectly suited for growing fraser firs because of the high elevation and climate. In our area farmers continuously plant seedings every year, which helps offset the carbon footprint of their farms. Every single Christmas tree farm in Watauga County is family owned, and each farm truly offers a unique tree-picking experience. Whether you’re looking for hot cocoa, spiced apple cider, that perfect handcrafted ornament, Santa Claus himself, or a hayride up the mountain, you can find it all in Watauga county.
