Breweries in Boone NC

The end of winter is fast approaching, and I’m more than ready to welcome spring. Winter can be such tease here in the high country. Chances are we’ll have another snow storm or two, but we’ll also see a few pops of warm, sunny 55 degree weather here and there. With the changing of the seasons, comes the changing of our beer menu. We’ll always have the essentials on hand at the Horton, but we’re guaranteed to switch up our draft beer offerings. As we move from the rich, dark lagers of winter to the brighter, lighter ales of spring we thought it fitting to share some information about our favorite breweries in Boone NC. If you’re planning a trip to the high country, or if you’re a local and you haven’t yet checked these places out, we highly recommend them!

What makes craft beer so special?

Craft beer can be loosely defined as beer made in a traditional way by a small brewery. There are so many reasons why you should be supporting (aka drinking) beer from your local craft brewery! First of all, it tastes better, and believe it or not it’s more than likely healthier for you too. Why? It’s all about the ingredients, of course. And our local breweries here in Boone, NC are all committed to using the highest quality ingredients available. Supporting a small craft brewery is also good for the environment because craft beer has a much smaller carbon footprint than domestic beer. If you’re spending time at one of the many great breweries in Boone NC, you’re also supporting the local families who own these businesses, and you’re helping our local economy. Booneshine

Booneshine Brewing Company started in Boone, NC back in 2015 by two friends determined to #makebooneshine together. It’s safe to say that they’ve done just that. “We are passionate about brewing high quality beer and equally focused on connecting with people and tapping into what makes the community of Boone and the High Country shine,” claim owners Carson and Tim. They’ve done so well that in 2018 they were able to expand their production brewery. Make sure to check out their tasting room inside of Basil’s restaurant!

Lost Province

Lost Province Brewing Company opened their doors in 2014 in downtown Boone. “We brew authentic and innovative craft beer and serve savory wood fired fare. As a small, family owned and operated business, we are committed to our community, environment, and employees and strive above all to provide an experience of gracious hospitality for all of our guests,” …and the Mason family does just that. Enjoy a cozy environment in a beautifully restored historic building that’s walking distance to everything that downtown Boone has to offer. They are located just up the street from us!

Appalachian Mountain Brewery

Appalachian Mountain Brewery focuses on building relationships with our community, sustainable business practices and supporting local non-profits. We also really enjoy brewing great tasting award winning beers and ciders,” states the AMB website. Our favorite thing about the AMB tasting room is that there’s plenty of outdoor seating, and it’s dog friendly! Their 120 foot outdoor bar borders Boone Creek, plus there’s heated, covered patio space too.

Bottle Shops in Boone NC

If you’re looking for a place to pick up some of the best craft brews that NC has to offer, don’t forget to check out one of our local bottle shops. We recommend Peabody’s or Benchmark Provisions. Benchmark is just around the corner from the Horton Hotel & Rooftop Lounge.

Don’t forget…

Make sure to explore each brewery’s website. Many of them have events, regular live music schedules, and more. You’re guaranteed to find something going on. Have a favorite beer or brewery? Share it with us! Did we miss an amazing place or beer? Reach out to us! And in the meantime… cheers!
